Day 1 – Tortola (Road Town) to Norman Island 7nm

Embark in Road Town, Tortola, and sail south to Norman Island – the BVI’s most legendary anchorage and said to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Drop anchor in The Bight and settle into the rhythm of Caribbean life.

Spend the afternoon snorkelling the famous Treasure Caves or swimming off the boat before your first sundowners at anchor.

Recommendation: The floating bar and restaurant William Thornton (Willy T) is an unmissable BVI institution – worth a visit on your first evening.

Day 2 – Norman Island to Cooper Island, 6nm

A short sail brings you to Cooper Island, one of the BVI’s most relaxed and unspoiled stops. The anchorage is calm, the reef is spectacular, and the pace gloriously unhurried.

Recommendation: Cooper Island Beach Club is a charming spot for lunch or an afternoon rum cocktail ashore.

Day 3 – Cooper Island to Virgin Gorda (The Baths), 10nm

Sail east to Virgin Gorda for one of the Caribbean’s most extraordinary natural wonders – enormous granite boulders forming dramatic grottos and crystal-clear pools right at the water’s edge.

Recommendation: Arrive early morning or late afternoon for The Baths at their most magical and crowd-free.

Day 4 – Virgin Gorda (The Baths to North Sound), 8nm

Move the boat north to Virgin Gorda’s spectacular North Sound – a vast natural harbour surrounded by mangroves and reef, and your staging point for tomorrow’s passage to Anegada.

Recommendation: Dinner at Bitter End Yacht Club — a BVI sailing institution not to be missed.

Day 5 – North Sound to Anegada, 15nm

The longest and most rewarding passage of the trip – sail north to Anegada, the BVI’s most remote and unique island. Unlike the volcanic peaks of the other islands, Anegada is flat, ringed by a vast coral reef, and home to some of the most pristine beaches in the Caribbean.

Recommendation: Fresh local lobster at Cow Wreck Beach Bar. Non-negotiable.

Day 6 – Anegada to Jost Van Dyke, 20nm

A glorious downwind sail southwest back towards the main island chain and on to Jost Van Dyke, a tiny island with an outsized reputation as the social heart of the BVI.

Recommendation: Foxy’s Beach Bar is a BVI legend – cold drinks, live music, and an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean.

Day 7 – Jost Van Dyke (Great Harbour to White Bay), 2nm

Move around the headland to White Bay – a crescent of perfect white sand with turquoise water and a string of casual beach bars. One of those anchorages you’ll never want to leave.

Recommendation: The Soggy Dollar Bar invented the Painkiller cocktail. You’re essentially obliged to have one.

Day 8 – White Bay to Sandy Spit, 13nm

Sail east to the uninhabited Sandy Spit – a tiny desert island anchorage that feels like the edge of the world. White sand, clear water, a few palm trees. That’s it.

Recommendation: Snorkel the reef around Sandy Spit – some of the healthiest coral in the BVI.

Day 9 – Sandy Spit to Peter Island, 14nm

Head south through the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Peter Island – one of the BVI’s most beautiful and peaceful anchorages. Deadman’s Bay is a long sweep of white sand, usually with very few other boats.

Recommendation: A perfect penultimate evening, dinner on deck, stars overhead, total peace.

Day 10 – Peter Island to Tortola (Cane Garden Bay), 8nm

A leisurely morning sail north along the Sir Francis Drake Channel to Cane Garden Bay on Tortola’s beautiful north shore – a wide sweep of golden sand lined with bars and restaurants, and the perfect place to spend your final full day aboard.

Swim off the boat, head ashore for lunch, and raise a glass to an unforgettable voyage as the sun goes down over the bay.

Recommendation: Myetts Beach Bar is a Tortola institution – great food, ice cold drinks, and a beach view that makes the perfect final evening setting.

Day 11 – Cane Garden Bay to Road Town (Disembarkation), 5nm

A short final sail around the headland to Road Town for a midday disembarkation. Take your time over a last breakfast on deck, take in the views of the harbour one final time, and say your goodbyes to the crew.

Recommendation: If you have time before departing, Village Cay Marina has a great spot for a farewell lunch ashore.
